ENROLLMENT OPEN for the 26-27 School Year!
AWCL teachers use Eureka Math Squared - a nationally acclaimed curriculum aligned with Common Core and MN math standards. This curriculum teaches the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ behind the numbers!
Mixed-grade classrooms split for grade-level math classes and instruction is catered to student needs based on Fastbridge assessments. Students have time to build fact-fluency and number sense, learn new skills, practice with hands-on materials, and show what they know with Exit Tickets.
AWCL teachers follow Science of Reading best practices and use a variety of curricula to teach all literacy components within language comprehension and word recognition - phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
We use FUNdations, Words Their Way, Simplify Writing, AWCL Dolch Sight Word lists, CAFE, and the Daily 5 framework.
Students spend time learning to read and then reading to learn. Writing and research skills are used during Investigation for students to create final products that show both their literacy skills AND understanding of science and social studies concepts.
A Learning Investigation © is a year-long study of science and social studies standards, inspired by EL Education expeditions and fine tuned by the AWCL Co-Founders to incorporate place-based learning, environmental education, and final products and/or presentations that bring learning to a public platform.
A Learning Investigation © has a common thread that pulls the standards together. It is interdisciplinary, which brings the content to math class, literacy class, and specialist classes!
